Day Laborer Assisstance:
Supervise an orderly system for employers to hire workers
Provide lists of jobs available
Recover unpaid wages (over $100,000 in the past few years)
Inform workers of classes, workshops, and services and motivate attendance
Classes & Training:
We run English as a second language classes all year long in the evening. We are about to start a computer based ESL program for those who visit our center during the daytime. For several years we have run classes in vocational safety and power tool use jointly with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. We have run health and nutrition classes with the American Cancer Society. We have held classes in house painting, civic responsibility, immigrant rights, handling money and jewelry making, among others.

“The Hispanic Resource Center has started a legal clinic in partnership with John Jay Legal Services, an immigration justice clinic based at Pace University School of Law.
Law students under the supervision of Professor Vanessa Merton will take immigration cases pro bono. Students accompanied by Professor Merton, visit the center once a month and see clients by appointment.
